I’m Jim Du Molin, founder of the Internet Dental Alliance. When people ask me what I do, I tell them: I make dentists wealthy.
How do I do that?
Well, I can predict the future!
I can predict what the dental consumer wants.
I can tell you what treatments your current patients will accept today and what potential new patients are looking for… both now and in the future.
I can tell you what dental markets are going to go up… and which are going to go down.
Within any given market, I can predict the exact treatments patient will want and accept. I can even tell you what the hottest dental markets are … those with the most profit per patient.
I have made hundreds of thousands dollars for myself with this information every year… for the last several years.
What is this knowledge worth to you?
Well, I imagine you’ll agree… it’s priceless – but I’m going to give YOU a sample of it… for free!
Before we get started, if you haven’t already printed out your own copy of our sample report, print the PDF now so that you can follow along.
The tool I’m giving you now is called the Dental Marketing Intelligence Report™. Since my job is to predict the future, let’s get started on the details. You might want to print out the PDF of the sample report.)
This intelligence report is based on information from over 10 different dental markets compiled from actual live Google searches by dental consumers.
We start by tracking the total gross number of searches by dental consumers each month for dentistry in general, and then we do it again for each individual market like braces, implants and cosmetics.
Why is this important?
It tells us the overall direction of the economy and the dental market. We can use this tool to predict the future – especially whether patients are going to feel confident and secure enough to show up at your door for dental treatment!
The graph at right shows you the average number of Google searches for dentistry in general over the past 12 months – I’ve highlighted the average line in red. You can also see the current trend line (shown in green) for local dental treatments over the last 12 months.
As you can see, there has been a major shift in overall consumer demand for dentistry – which, by now, you are hopefully feeling in your own practice!
This is especially true when compared to the previous year’s stats… which were truly dismal at best.
There were over 6 million total searches by consumers for local dental care in April of 2011. (We calculate this by analyzing the top 30 search terms in over 10 different dental markets – which is no small feat!)
The monthly average over the last year was 6.8 million searches per month. The total number of consumer searches for local dental procedures last 12 months was over 82 million.
Overall, you can see that the entire dental market is on an upward trend. But you can also see there was a significant drop in consumer interest in April – a drop of about a quarter million searches.
Is this the start of a new downward trend? Is the economy starting to tank again? Or, is this just a seasonal issue as consumers have to give up their April 15th tax dollars?
The full report details the answers – and gives you totally up-to-date results!
Let’s take a moment to examine the details of one of dentistry’s most competitive markets: cosmetic dentistry. Is it going up or down?
As you can see, the current trend line for cosmetic dentistry is positive. In April, there were 25,000 more searches than the previous month – that’s a 4% increase! This shows us a very positive trend for Cosmetics, especially when you consider that searches for dentistry overall dropped significantly in April.
You’ll see the Cosmetic Dentistry trend line in green. Let’s compare that with the trend line for dentistry in general, shown in blue.
This gap – shown in red – shows you that, while the consumer is searching more for cosmetic dentistry today than a year ago, cosmetics are not growing at the same rate as the overall general dental market.
This tells us that the consumer is still hesitant to use discretionary dollars in the current economy for cosmetic purposes.
Now, the real gold in your Dental Marketing Intelligence Report™ comes from knowing the details of any given market segment. When I started this video, I told you that I could predict what exact treatments patients want and will accept… Here’s how we do it.
Each month, we track the top 30 keyword phrases searched for on Google – for each individual dental market: cosmetics, implants, sedation, dentures, etc.
Let’s hunt for some major dollars in the Cosmetic market!
These search terms are ranked 1 through 15 by search volume. You can see whether each term is moving up or down relative to the prior month.
Further, you can see the change in search volume for any keyword phrase – whether it has stayed the same (yellow), is growing (green), or is dropping (red).
Notice that you don’t see any red! That means that all of these terms – and the entire cosmetic dental category – are in a growth mode. This is a reflection of the upward trend that I mentioned earlier.
Let’s take a closer look at these phrases – and what they can tell you. (Just a quick note – we track teeth whitening as a completely separate market.)
Of the top 15 phrases in cosmetic dentistry, five of them revolve around veneers – that’s one-third, folks! Even more impressive is the fact that Lumineers – a brand name – is the 4th most-searched term in the cosmetic dentistry market.
This tells us that if you want to market cosmetic dentistry, you had better be featuring veneers as your #1 cosmetic service… not crowns or bridges.
And just what is this piece of knowledge worth to you?
Consider the impact of properly targeting your marketing message when you lay out your next website, phone book ad, radio spot or TV commercial. Like I said before… it’s priceless.
Being able to see the future, seeing where the market is going – before your competition – doesn’t just allow you to avoid costly mistakes – it lets you profit from this inside knowledge. Your Dental Marketing Intelligence Report™ gives you a look into the future.
You can see the top 15 search terms that consumers are using to look for local dental treatment and care. In the full report, you won’t just get this for Cosmetic Dentistry… but for over ten more key dental markets each month – braces, implants, sedation, and more.
This is knowledge that you can profit from now. It can immediately put cash in your bank account now… with more new patients in your chair now.
It’s time to go for the big brass ring! I want to give you an insight into something truly amazing. Something I can guarantee you’ve never seen anywhere else. This is the ultimate key… to maximizing profit… in every aspect of your dental marketing.
Would it be good for you to know what the absolutely hottest dental market is each month?
I don’t mean in terms of consumer search volume. I mean in terms of production value and … most important! …. net profit per patient.
This is where we separate the just successful doctors from those who are super-successful.
These super-successful dentists have more new patients than they need. They maximize production. They bank maximum profit from each and every patient in their chair. And they do it all without sacrificing quality of care.
This is the advanced class for those doctors and team members who are true dental marketers.
I want to start with a brief example to show you how internet search engines like Google, Yahoo and… Microsoft Bing make billions in profits from free internet search.
This is a typical Google search results page. Here, I searched for “Dental Veneers Boston.” This is how the vast majority of consumers search for dental treatments and local dentists.
What many people don’t realize (or even know) is that about 50% of the Google search results shown are paid ads.
The central part of the page is where Google shows what they call “Organic Search” results.
These are based on Google’s formula for determining the most relevant and popular search results. There is no charge to you or your practice for “Organic Listing” results by Google, Yahoo or Bing.
However, where Google and the other search engines make the big bucks is from the paid ads. Every time a dental consumer clicks an ad at the top or side of the search results page, Google charges the advertising dentist a fee.
How much of a fee? Typically from a low of 5¢ up to $100… per click.
When a consumer clicks on your ad, this does not mean you are getting a patient!
You are only getting a visitor to your website… who may or may not call your practice for an appointment.
In the Dental Marketing Intelligence Report™, we show what Google charges for clicks on each of the top 15 dental phrases in more than 10 dental markets.
Let’s take a closer look at how this works. Each one of these phrases is sold by Google in an auction – it’s essentially an ongoing, minute-by-minute auction – based on how much you and your competitors are willing to pay to advertise at the top of the consumer search results page.
For example, in the most recent month, the average cost that Google charges for a click on the phrase “cosmetic dentist” (in combination with another word, most likely a city – such as “Chicago” or “Phoenix”) is $8.61.
This means that the average dentist is willing to pay Google almost $9 just to get one web visitor to click on a paid ad featuring that keyword phrase.
But let’s be clear – this is not a new patient! This is just someone clicking an ad to visit a dentist’s website.
So how much are dentists – that is, your competitors – willing to pay to get a new patient?
We answer this question with some mathematical magic developed by Matt Huber, our designated Certified Financial Planner and in-house math wizard – the details of which are best left to the footnotes of the actual intelligence report.
We’ve weighted the search volume of each term to come up with average weighted cost per click… for the overall dental market. For the cosmetic market, we get an average weighted cost of $5.65 per click.
Now remember, this is what your competition is paying on the average just to get a visitor to their website. The reality is that only a very few website visitors will actually convert to patients in the chair.
For statistical and comparative purposes, our report uses a conversion rate of 2%. That means we estimate that for every 100 clicks, your competition is acquiring 2 new patients. This comes to an average cost of $282 to acquire a single cosmetic patient.
When ranking the cost to acquire a new patient over 10 of the major dental markets, cosmetic dentistry ranks as the 3rd hottest dental market that we monitor.
Now some of you are shocked that the cost to acquire a cosmetic patient is $282, and are thinking, “I would never pay that much!”
And that’s the difference in thinking between a successful doctor and a super-successful doctor.
The super-successful doctor looks at the numbers.
Our research indicates that the average gross production for a new cosmetic patient is about $5,500 during the first 9 months of treatment.
When we subtract out the lab fees and variable expenses associated with production, collections loss, and marketing costs, that works out to nearly $4,000 in increased net profit to your pocket for each cosmetic patient.
Suddenly paying $282 for a patient doesn’t seem so unreasonable, does it?
If you hand Google $282, and they hand you back $4,000 in net profit… How long do you want to play this game? The super-successful doctors play it all day, every day.
This is not an issue of quality of care! It’s an issue of mathematics.
The super-successful doctors target the hottest dental markets with the highest production and profitability per patient. They use their time and marketing dollars efficiently.
